If you need some help around the house or think it’s time to look into aged care while staying at home, we’re here to help.
Older Australians have spoken, and there is a strong preference to remain in their own homes as they age. A full and happy life while ageing in place is made possible with the support of in-home care and fortunately, financial support through My Aged Care supports Australians ageing in place with their in home care needs through a Home Care package.
At Home Care Assistance, we are specialists at guiding families through the entire My Aged Care processes of both acquiring and making the best use of a home care package, giving peace of mind to families and quality of life to ageing individuals.
A home care package can be as unique as the individual it services, and hence requires a comprehensive needs assessment to be undertaken before it is approved. As everyone’s care needs are different, there are four levels of Home Care Packages that may be considered, each with different subsidy amounts.
Depending on the level of Home Care Package you receive, you can get assistance with a range of different services. The three main categories of services are:
- Services to keep you well and independent – including personal care, nursing services,
allied health - Services to keep you safe in your home – including cleaning, home maintenance and modifications, assistive technology
- Services to keep you connected to your community – including transport, social
support services
4 Levels of Home Care Packages
Level 1 Basic care needs – approximately $9,000 a year
Level 1 gives you a little extra support to help stay independent at home and might involve one or two visits a week from a Care Worker.A Level 1 Home Care Package might include some help with basic housework, grooming and dressing needs or some help with shopping, meal preparation or transport to appointments.
Level 2 Low care needs – approximately $15,750 a year
Like Level 1, a Level 2 Home Care package provides low-level assistance that’s designed to give you a little extra support to help stay independent at home for longer. It could involve three or four visits a week from a Care Worker for similar support tasks as mentioned for level 1.
Level 3 Intermediate care needs – approximately $34,250 a year
If you need a little more support to stay living at home, then you may be allocated a Level 3 package. This might involve visits from a Care Worker or a nurse most days of the week to support you with health monitoring services, and allied health visits.
Level 4 High care needs – approximately $52,000 a year
A Level 4 Home Care Package provides high-level care and is suitable if you have high level or complex nursing needs and will usually involve daily visits from a care worker or a nurse.
Level 4 is the highest level of support care available and includes assistance with domestic and medical or nursing support.
